At first, it seemed like a harmless piece of old fabric, but a closer look revealed scorched edges and faint, haunting embroidery. Nearby, a weathered stone bore a strange inscription, hinting at a hidden box of puzzles.
Intrigued, you decided to follow the stone’s cryptic clues. Sure enough, a small wooden box lay concealed under an outcropping of rocks. Inside were mysterious letters, faded photographs, and fragments of a long-forgotten story. Who wore this dress, and why was it set ablaze? What tragic secret led to its burial on this lonely hill?
Determined to uncover the truth, you and your friends set out on an impromptu investigation. Solving the puzzles in the box might just reveal the name and fate of the dress’s owner. Piece by piece, you’ll uncover a story of hidden love, sorrowful sacrifice, and a secret that time tried to erase. Now it’s up to you. 1) Setup:
Print out all the game materials, make sure you have pencils (to record the clues) and scissors (to cut the puzzles). Set aside a comfortable play area and read any introductory story material provided to set the scene.
3) Solve each module:
Work together to solve all puzzles in the module you've chosen. Examine every clue, note, or strange item; often the smallest details hide the answers. Use logic, creativity, and teamwork to crack codes, decipher messages, and complete that module. When you solve the final puzzle in a module, you’ll obtain a key piece of information (for example, a word, number, or phrase) – this is the module’s “solution” and a clue to the overall mystery.
4) Continue to the next modules:
Repeat the process for the remaining modules. Each time, you'll gain another critical clue. By the end of all three modules, you should have three separate solution clues. These might seem unrelated at first, but trust that they will all come together.
5) Final puzzle (integration step):
Once you have all three clues, you’re ready for the final challenge. This last puzzle requires you to combine information from all three modules. Work as a team to figure out how the clues connect and answer the final question. This is the moment where the full story clicks into place – if your answer to the final quiz is correct, you have essentially solved the mystery. Access the final puzzle here:
6) Solve the mystery:
After answering the final quiz, you'll have completed the game’s objective! Now you can move on to the conclusion of the story and claim your reward.
Before you begin, here are some basic guidelines to make your gameplay smooth and enjoyable:
Everything you need is in the game: No special knowledge or internet access is required to solve the puzzles. All the information you need is provided within the game materials. If something feels impossible, take a step back and look over the clues again – the answer is likely hiding in plain sight.
Optional time limit: For an extra challenge, you can set a timer (for example, 60 or 90 minutes) to simulate the pressure of a real escape room. This is completely optional – there's no penalty if time runs out. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, feel free to ignore the clock and enjoy the story without time pressure.
Handle clues with care: Some puzzles might involve folding, cutting, or writing on the printed materials. That’s okay and part of the fun! Just be gentle and avoid destroying any clues – you might need to revisit them later. If you plan to pass the game on to others afterward, consider making copies of pages before you cut or write on them.

Each puzzle or module comes with a series of hints you can use as needed. The first hint for a puzzle will give you a gentle nudge in the right direction. If you need more help, a second hint will be more specific. And if you're still stuck, a third hint might outright reveal the solution (or at least get you extremely close).
